Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Leader Lucky Oberoi was shot dead on Thursday morning after assailants opened fire at him while he was sitting inside his car in the Model Town area of Jalandhar, police said. The incident took place outside a Gurdwara Sahib, sending shockwaves through the local political and social circles.
According to initial information, Oberoi was parking his vehicle near the gurdwara when two unidentified attackers arrived on a two-wheeler and fired multiple rounds at close range. Five bullets reportedly struck him while he was still inside the car. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead due to the severity of his injuries.
The shooting triggered an immediate response from the police, who cordoned off the area and began collecting forensic evidence from the spot. Senior police officials reached the scene shortly after the incident and launched an investigation to identify the attackers and determine the motive behind the killing. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and checkpoints have been set up to trace the suspects.

Oberoi’s family background has also drawn attention following the incident. His wife had previously contested municipal elections as an AAP candidate, though she was unsuccessful. Party leaders and supporters expressed shock over the killing, with several calling for swift action and justice. Police said further details are awaited as the investigation progresses and assured that efforts are underway to arrest those responsible.
