#BreakingNews: 16 Bangladeshi Illegal Immigrants Arrested in Bengaluru

Bengaluru police arrest 16 Bangladeshi illegal immigrants after viral video exposes them during a demolition drive.

In a major crackdown, Bengaluru police arrested 16 Bangladeshi nationals from Hebbugodi following the circulation of a viral video that drew attention to illegal immigrants residing in the area. The video, showing a woman chanting “Bangladesh Zindabad” during a demolition drive, led authorities to identify her and uncover a larger network of illegal occupants.

Investigations revealed that the immigrants had entered India via Kolkata, paying agents between ₹25,000 and ₹50,000, and obtained fake Aadhaar and voter ID cards to reside in Bengaluru. Police confirmed that some even managed to acquire BPL cards after years, indicating a long-standing presence in the city.

The Hebbugodi arrests mark just the beginning of a wider probe into illegal immigrants across Bengaluru, particularly at Kogilu Layout, where previous demolitions had created political tensions and interstate disputes between Kerala and Karnataka. Authorities are now scrutinizing multiple properties for fraudulent documentation.

The case also sheds light on previous criminal investigations, including the January 5 Whitefield murder case, where the accused, Yusuf Mir, was revealed to be a Bangladeshi illegal immigrant with fake identity documents. Police are continuing to verify the IDs and backgrounds of associates and family members involved in these incidents.

The BJP fact-finding committee has raised concerns over irregularities in government housing schemes, revealing that many illegal occupants had multiple IDs, suggesting a mix of Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants. The party has called for an NIA investigation into the Kogilu Layout occupancy, citing threats to law enforcement and civic order.

While the state government has downplayed the issue in recent weeks, the arrests highlight growing scrutiny over illegal immigration in Bengaluru. Authorities emphasize that verification of resident documents and strict action against fraudulent IDs will continue, aiming to prevent exploitation of public schemes and maintain law and order.
