Bomb Explosion Near Bengal School Leaves One Dead

One killed in bomb explosion near school.

A devastating bomb explosion outside Madhyamgram High School in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district claimed one life early Monday morning, police reported. The blast, which occurred in the Madhyamgram police station area, has raised concerns about public safety in the region.

Superintendent of Police for Barasat police district, Pratiksha Jharkhariya, confirmed that the explosion left one individual critically injured. The victim, identified by police sources as a resident of another state, was rushed to Barasat Medical College and Hospital but succumbed to injuries. "Further investigation is underway," Jharkhariya stated, withholding additional details as the probe continues.

West Bengal Food and Supplies Minister Rathin Ghosh visited the site, assuring residents that the police are thoroughly investigating the incident. Authorities have cordoned off the area to secure evidence and determine the cause of the blast, which remains unclear. Preliminary reports suggest it may have been a crude bomb, but officials are yet to confirm the nature of the explosive or any potential motives.

The incident has sparked alarm among locals, particularly due to its proximity to a school, though no students or staff were harmed as the explosion occurred before school hours. The police are exploring all angles, including whether the blast was targeted or accidental, and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas. Community leaders have called for heightened security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
