BJP Will Make Assam Free of Illegal Immigrants in Five Years: Amit Shah

Amit Shah pledges nationwide expulsion of illegal immigrants.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a resolute declaration on the Bharatiya Janata Party's commitment to expelling every illegal infiltrator not only from Assam but from the entire nation, framing the issue as a critical challenge to national security, cultural preservation, and demographic integrity in sensitive border regions.

Addressing a large gathering at the inauguration of the Rs 227-crore redeveloped Batadrava Than—the revered birthplace of 15th-16th century Vaishnavite saint-reformer Srimanta Sankardeva—in Assam's Nagaon district, Shah appealed directly to voters ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, pledging that a renewed BJP mandate would render the state completely free of illegal immigrants within the next five years while extending similar measures across India.

He commended the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for spearheading extensive eviction operations that have successfully reclaimed over 1.29 lakh bighas of land from alleged Bangladeshi encroachers, including sensitive sites such as the surroundings of Batadrava Than and the iconic Kaziranga National Park, transforming previously occupied areas into symbols of cultural reclamation and development.

Shah launched a pointed critique against the Congress party, accusing it of historically promoting illegal migration through policies like the 1983 Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunals) Act to cultivate a vote bank, thereby endangering Assam's indigenous culture, literature, and identity while neglecting the sacrifices made during the Assam Movement.

Emphasizing the transformative progress under BJP governance, Shah highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's frequent engagements with the state, multiple peace accords achieving near-full implementation for regional stability, substantial infrastructure investments, and the shift in Assam's perception from a region of unrest to a key driver of Northeast India's growth and national development.
