BJP MLA Hans Raj Booked Under POCSO Act for Alleged Sexual Assault on Minor

Himachal Pradesh BJP MLA Hans Raj from the Churah Assembly constituency in Chamba district has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following allegations of sexual assault on a minor. The complaint was lodged at the Women’s Police Station in Chamba by a woman, now in her early twenties, alleging sexual abuse since she was 16 years old.

The case was registered under Section 6 of the POCSO Act (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) and Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (criminalizing sexual intercourse by deceitful means). The victim’s statement was recorded before a magistrate, and a medical examination was conducted as part of the investigation.

This is the third FIR filed against Hans Raj in relation to the same complainant. Earlier complaints included allegations of harassment, obscene messaging, and threats, though some were withdrawn citing mental duress. Recently, the victim went public again with serious accusations of exploitation and intimidation, also alleging forced withdrawal of her prior complaint after threats from the MLA’s aides.

Following a public video by the woman accusing Hans Raj of ruining her family and fearing for her life, a separate FIR was registered against the MLA’s close aides for kidnapping and intimidation. Hans Raj has denied all allegations, calling them politically motivated attempts to malign his image.

The Himachal Pradesh Women’s Commission has sought a report from police, and the victim has been provided security due to threats. This case adds to growing legal scrutiny on politicians from the state recently facing similar accusations. Investigations are ongoing to ensure justice and protection for the complainant under relevant laws.
