Bihar Woman Beaten to Death in Witchcraft Allegation, Family Injured
Superstition fuels brutal killing of Bihar mother in neighbour dispute.
In a shocking display of persistent superstition, 35-year-old Kiran Devi was brutally beaten to death in Bihar's Nawada district after neighbours from a related family accused her of practising witchcraft and causing a child's brain-related illness.
The violent incident unfolded in the Rajauli police station area, where members of the neighbouring family—identified as Mukesh Chaudhary, Mahendra Chaudhary, Natru Chaudhary, and Shobha Devi—allegedly launched a merciless attack using bricks, stones, and iron rods, targeting Kiran Devi amid escalating rumours and unfounded suspicions.
During the assault, two other women from Kiran Devi's family—her younger sister-in-law Lalita Devi and an elder sister-in-law—intervened or were caught in the fray, sustaining serious injuries that required immediate medical attention alongside the primary victim.

The injured women were first taken to a sub-divisional hospital for emergency first aid, but due to severe blood loss and critical conditions, they were referred to a larger district facility; tragically, Kiran Devi, a mother of two sons and two daughters, succumbed to her injuries en route.
Police have described the episode as rooted in an ongoing dispute between the two related families, with three individuals detained for questioning and a forensic team collecting evidence, while this latest case underscores the enduring menace of witch-hunting in Nawada, following prior incidents including a woman burned alive about one-and-a-half years ago and a couple attacked in August 2025.
