Bihar Police Arrest Three For Posing As Customs Officers And Looting 2kg Gold

Three arrested in Bihar for 2kg gold loot case.

Three individuals have been arrested in Bihar after allegedly posing as customs officials and looting nearly 2 kilograms of gold from a Gujarat-based jeweller in a meticulously planned robbery, police officials confirmed on Saturday. The incident has raised fresh concerns over impersonation-based crimes targeting high-value commercial transport.

According to preliminary police findings, the accused intercepted the jeweller during his movement through Bihar and identified themselves as customs officers conducting a routine inspection. The suspects allegedly used forged identity cards and official-style intimidation to convince the victim that they were law enforcement personnel authorised to check and seize consignments suspected of irregularities.

Once the jeweller complied, the accused reportedly took control of the gold consignment, which weighed around 2 kilograms, and fled the scene. Police said the operation appeared pre-planned, with the gang allegedly tracking the movement of the trader in advance and selecting a vulnerable stretch of route to execute the crime.

Following the complaint, local police launched a coordinated investigation involving surveillance analysis, intelligence inputs, and technical tracking. Within a short span of time, three suspects were identified and subsequently arrested. Officials also recovered a portion of the stolen gold during follow-up raids conducted at multiple locations linked to the accused.

Investigators believe the arrested individuals may be part of a wider network involved in similar impersonation and highway robbery cases targeting traders carrying bullion and cash. Authorities are currently probing whether the group has committed other offences using the same modus operandi across different states.

Police officials have highlighted that impersonation of government enforcement agencies has become an increasingly sophisticated tactic used by organised crime groups. By exploiting fear of regulatory checks, such gangs are able to bypass resistance and execute thefts with minimal immediate suspicion from victims.

As the investigation continues, authorities are examining CCTV footage, communication records, and travel patterns to reconstruct the movement of both the victim and the accused. Efforts are also underway to trace the remaining stolen gold and identify additional suspects who may have assisted in planning or executing the robbery.

Officials have assured strict action against all those involved and stated that enhanced monitoring will be implemented on key transport routes frequently used for bullion movement. The case has once again underscored the need for heightened vigilance among traders transporting high-value assets across state borders.
