Bihar Minister Arrives In E-Rickshaw Backing PM Fuel Conservation Appeal

Bihar Minister uses e-rickshaw supporting PM’s fuel conservation appeal.

Bihar Road Construction Minister Kumar Shailendra on Wednesday arrived at his office in Patna in an e-rickshaw, publicly aligning his travel choice with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation and greater use of eco-friendly transport amid concerns over global energy pressures.

The minister said the decision was aimed at promoting environmentally sustainable mobility and encouraging citizens to adopt alternative modes of transport. Speaking to the media, he stated that the Prime Minister’s call on reducing petrol and diesel consumption had influenced his personal commitment to use greener transport options in daily official work.

Shailendra further noted that Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had discussed the importance of fuel conservation during a recent cabinet meeting. Following these discussions, he said he decided to use eco-friendly transport for at least two days each week, beginning with his e-rickshaw commute on Wednesday.

He added that he would continue using the e-rickshaw throughout the day for official engagements, including meetings with senior officials and participation in cabinet-level discussions. The minister also mentioned that he had recently completed a tour of 10 districts before returning to the departmental headquarters for the first time since taking office.

Alongside his transport initiative, the minister spoke about the state government’s “Sahyog Shivir” programme, describing it as an outreach effort designed to improve access to government services. He said officials were already conducting grievance redressal camps across districts, blocks, subdivisions, and panchayats to address public concerns directly.

Shailendra said that while these outreach initiatives are active, awareness among citizens remains limited, and expanding such camps would help bridge the gap between the administration and the public. The initiative, he said, reflects a broader effort to improve accessibility, responsiveness, and citizen engagement in governance.
