Bihar Honour Killing Tragedy! Father, Son Arrested for Murdering Wife and Daughter

A man and his son were apprehended in Bihar’s Rohtas district on Sunday for the alleged murder of his wife, Parvati Devi, and daughter, Pratima Kumari, in a suspected honour killing

A man and his son were apprehended in Bihar’s Rohtas district on Sunday for the alleged murder of his wife, Parvati Devi, and daughter, Pratima Kumari, in a suspected honour killing linked to the daughter’s refusal to accept an arranged marriage.

The gruesome incident occurred on Saturday in Piyarrakala village, under Chutiya Police Station’s jurisdiction, police confirmed.

Rohtas SP Raushan Kumar reported that the bodies were found near a power grid substation. Initially, Parvati’s husband, Ram Nath Ram, and their younger son, Chhotu Kumar, claimed the deaths resulted from electrocution while operating a motor pump.

However, “conflicting statements during interrogation and external injury marks on the bodies raised doubts,” Kumar said, leading to their arrest and incarceration. A special investigation team uncovered the truth: Pratima resisted an arranged marriage to a man from a Jharkhand village, choosing instead a partner of her own accord, with her mother’s support.

“Despite repeated efforts by her father and brother, she remained firm,” the SP explained. On Friday night, Ram Nath and Chhotu allegedly strangled Pratima with her dupatta as she slept beside her mother. When Parvati intervened, they killed her too, later dumping both bodies near the substation. The dupatta and mobile phones of the victims and accused were seized, and the bodies sent for post-mortem examination.

“The investigation is underway,” Kumar added, as the case exposes the dark undercurrents of familial control in the region.
