Bengaluru Techie Accused in Wife’s Suicide Found Dead in Nagpur Hotel
Newlywed flees dowry case, dies by suicide in Nagpur.
A 35-year-old software professional from Bengaluru, Suraj Shivanna, accused of abetting his wife's suicide through alleged dowry harassment, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in a modest hotel room on Wardha Road in Nagpur late on December 27, 2025, marking a devastating conclusion to a chain of events that spanned over 1,000 kilometers across multiple states.
Suraj's wife, 28-year-old Ganavi, had ended her life on December 25, 2025, at their rented residence in Vidyaranyapura's BEL Layout, barely one-and-a-half months after their arranged marriage, succumbing during treatment at a local hospital; her grieving family promptly filed a police complaint alleging persistent dowry demands and mental cruelty by Suraj and his relatives, escalating into protests demanding swift justice.
Overwhelmed by fear of arrest following the registration of an abetment to suicide case under relevant IPC sections, Suraj fled Bengaluru immediately with his 60-year-old mother Jayanti Shivanna and younger brother Sanjay, first seeking temporary refuge in Hyderabad before continuing their journey to Nagpur, where they checked into the hotel on December 26 under assumed circumstances.

In the dimly lit hotel room, Suraj took the extreme step late Friday night, reportedly leaving no note; upon discovering her son's body, his distraught mother Jayanti attempted suicide in the same room but was found unconscious by hotel staff who alerted authorities, enabling timely medical intervention that stabilized her condition in a Nagpur hospital where she remains under observation and police watch.
Nagpur's Sonegaon police registered an accidental death case, conducted a post-mortem examination on Suraj's body, and recorded statements from his brother Sanjay while initiating coordination with Bengaluru counterparts to integrate findings with the ongoing dowry harassment and abetment investigation, as authorities probe the full circumstances surrounding this profound family tragedy that has left both sides shattered.
