Bengaluru Shocker: Two Arrested for Threatening Actor Ramya, 11 More to Face Justice
Two arrested, 11 identified for online threats against actor Ramya in Bengaluru; police vow swift action.
Bengaluru’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested two individuals for posting obscene messages and issuing rape and death threats against former Mandya MP and Kannada actor Ramya, also known as Divya Spandana, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh announced on Saturday.
The arrests follow a complaint filed by Ramya on July 28, 2025, after she faced a barrage of online abuse triggered by her July 24 social media post demanding justice for the victim’s family in the Renukaswamy murder case, in which Kannada actor Darshan is a prime accused.
Commissioner Singh revealed that 11 additional individuals have been identified for their direct involvement in posting abusive content and are slated for arrest soon. The CCB, in collaboration with the social media monitoring team, scrutinized 43 social media accounts flagged in Ramya’s complaint, confirming 13 accounts as actively involved in the harassment. The two arrested individuals, hailing from neighboring districts, are under investigation, with authorities yet to confirm whether they are fans of actor Darshan.
Addressing reporters, Singh emphasized that the CCB and cybercrime police are actively pursuing the case to ensure accountability. Ramya, taking to X on Saturday, expressed gratitude to Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, Commissioner Singh, and the CCB team for their swift response.
“The Bengaluru city police have taken a firm stand against misogynistic aggression. Legal action has been initiated,” she posted, underscoring that the crackdown sends a clear message about protecting women’s dignity and safety. The ongoing investigation highlights Bengaluru’s commitment to combating online harassment and ensuring justice for victims of cyber abuse.
