Bengaluru Police Arrest Seventh Accused in ₹7.11 Crore ATM Van Heist

Police close in on ₹7 crore ATM van daylight robbery gang.

Bengaluru City Police have achieved a major breakthrough in the audacious ₹7.11 crore ATM van robbery that unfolded in broad daylight on November 19, 2025, with the arrest of the seventh accused late Saturday night. The meticulously planned heist, executed by imposters disguised as IT officials, targeted a cash replenishment vehicle from CMS Info Systems, leaving authorities scrambling to recover the massive haul amid heightened public alarm over urban security lapses.

The prime suspect, identified as Rakesh, shares familial ties with one of the earlier detainees and played a pivotal role in the gang's operational logistics. Apprehended in a swift operation within Bengaluru city limits, Rakesh's capture marks the culmination of an exhaustive probe involving over 200 personnel combing through CCTV footage, call records, and insider tip-offs. Sources confirm his interrogation has yielded crucial leads, though additional recoveries remain pending as investigators dissect his involvement in the reconnaissance phase.

Prior arrests had already netted six key operatives, including disgruntled ex-employees of the cash logistics firm who exploited their intimate knowledge of van routes and security protocols. Among them was the fleet incharge tasked with overseeing the very vehicles used for cash transport, whose betrayal facilitated the precise timing of the ambush. Shockingly, a serving police constable, Annappa Naik from Govindapura station, was also implicated, highlighting potential internal vulnerabilities that enabled the criminals to evade initial detection.

From the total loot, authorities have so far reclaimed ₹6.2 crore, stashed in various hideouts across the city and rural outskirts. The remaining ₹91 lakh is believed concealed in undisclosed locations, with Rakesh's questioning expected to unlock these secrets. The gang's modus operandi—impersonating officials to halt the van under false pretenses—demonstrates a sophisticated level of planning, underscoring the need for enhanced verification measures in high-value cash movements.

As the investigation intensifies, Bengaluru police have vowed to dismantle any lingering networks, with special teams monitoring interstate links. This seventh arrest not only edges the case toward full resolution but also serves as a stern warning to insider threats within critical sectors, restoring a measure of confidence in the city's financial infrastructure while prompting broader reviews of security protocols.
