Assam’s Bold Plan to Revolutionize Education for the AI Era!
Assam CM urges academic overhaul to prepare youth for AI and industry demands.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is calling for a radical upgrade in academic standards to prepare the state’s youth for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Speaking at a ceremony in Guwahati on July 18, where 342 new faculty members received appointment letters under the Department of Higher (Technical) Education, Sarma outlined a vision to transform engineering colleges and polytechnics into hubs of innovation and skill development.
With Assam attracting major investments and new industries, Sarma emphasized that the state’s youth must be equipped to seize emerging job opportunities. “Our institutions must produce a workforce ready for cutting-edge technologies like AI, machine learning, and 3D printing,” he declared. The goal? To ensure Assam’s colleges and polytechnics don’t just teach but also spark startups and groundbreaking ideas.
The event marked a milestone in the state government’s commitment to providing one lakh government jobs, with the total number of jobs distributed now standing at an impressive 1,21,182. Sarma announced that recruitment for teaching positions in all 26 government polytechnics and seven engineering colleges is nearly complete, with a target to wrap up by December 2025.

Sarma urged the newly appointed faculty to inspire “fresh thinking” and transform their institutions into incubators for innovation. “As India races to become the world’s third-largest economy, Assam’s youth must lead the charge with skills that match global industry demands,” he said. By fostering startups and embracing emerging technologies, the state aims to create a dynamic ecosystem where education fuels economic growth.
This bold push signals Assam’s ambition to not only meet but exceed the demands of a rapidly evolving job market, positioning its youth at the forefront of the tech-driven future.
