Assam Man Steals Rs 50 Lakh From Parents' Locker, Father Files FIR

A man in Jorhat, Assam, has been arrested for allegedly stealing cash and gold jewellery worth around Rs 50 lakh from his parents' house while they were away for several days. The accused, identified as Yash Dhanuka, reportedly knew about the valuables kept in a locker in his parents' room. Police said he allegedly broke open the locker and took the cash and jewellery before spending a portion of the money. The case came to light after Dhanuka's father filed a complaint against him.

According to the investigation, Dhanuka allegedly sold some of the stolen jewellery and used the money for personal expenses. Police said he spent a significant amount on his girlfriend, including purchasing an iPhone reportedly worth around Rs 1.5 lakh. He also allegedly used the money to pay for outings and parties with her. Investigators are now tracing the transactions and attempting to recover the remaining cash and jewellery allegedly taken from the house.

Police have also recorded statements concerning Dhanuka's girlfriend, identified as Pubali Dutta. Investigators are examining messages exchanged between the two as part of the probe. Dutta reportedly visited Dhanuka's house while his parents were away. Police are trying to establish whether she knew about the alleged theft or understood that the money and jewellery used during their outings had allegedly been taken from his family home.

The investigation has also brought allegations against two journalists, identified as Jitendra Somani and Rohit Prasad. They are accused of allegedly helping Dhanuka sell some of the stolen jewellery. According to the investigation, some jewellery items were reportedly sold at a store in Golaghat. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding these transactions and the possible involvement of other people in handling or disposing of the allegedly stolen valuables.

An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on the complaint filed by Dhanuka's father. The alleged theft has caused distress within the family, while police continue to investigate the movement of the stolen property and money. Officers are also looking into whether all the missing jewellery has been accounted for and whether additional people may have assisted in the alleged theft or subsequent sale of the valuables.

The case remains under investigation, with police focusing on recovering the stolen property and determining the roles of everyone connected to the alleged transactions. Investigators are examining financial records, messages and other available evidence to establish how the money was spent and how the jewellery was sold. The allegations against the accused and other individuals will be subject to the outcome of the investigation and legal proceedings.
