Assam Family Found Dead, Son Dismembered in Gruesome Case
Family of three killed in Darrang, police probe murder.
A chilling tragedy has shaken Narikoli village in Assam’s Darrang district, where three members of a family were found dead under gruesome circumstances on the evening of September 11. The bodies, discovered near the historic Narikali Mandir under Sipajhar Police Station’s jurisdiction, have left the community reeling and authorities scrambling to uncover the motive behind what appears to be a brutal murder.
The victims were identified as Dipak Nath, 55, a state government employee, whose body was found near his home’s boundary wall with no visible injuries; his wife, Pratima Nath, 46, discovered inside the house with her throat slit; and their 13-year-old son, Dhriti Raj Nath, a Class 7 student, whose dismembered body was found in a room. The horrific scene came to light after neighbors and relatives, alarmed by unanswered phone calls, entered the residence and alerted authorities.
A police team, led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rosy Talukdar, swiftly responded, launching a detailed investigation. “We are treating this as a murder case and investigating from all angles,” Talukdar told reporters, noting that a blood-stained dagger, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the terrace alongside Dipak’s belongings. The absence of eyewitnesses has led police to rely heavily on forensic evidence, with blood samples and fingerprints sent for analysis. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.

Preliminary findings suggest a possible murder-suicide, with police suspecting Dipak may have killed his wife and son before taking his own life, though no suicide note was found. Locals have speculated about a family dispute, but police are awaiting forensic reports to confirm the sequence of events. The involvement of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and Fingerprint Bureau underscores the case’s severity.
The tragedy has sparked widespread shock in Sipajhar, with residents mourning the loss of a family described as “quiet and happy.” Dipak’s brother, who discovered the bodies, told local media, “Some miscreants must have done this. We are devastated.” As the investigation unfolds, the gruesome nature of the killings, particularly the dismemberment of young Dhriti Raj, has heightened calls for swift justice in this quiet Assam village.
