Assam Cop Dies After Vehicle Hits Him During Check; Police Probe Possible Drug Link
Assam cop dies after vehicle hits him during checkpoint duty.
Assam Police are investigating a possible link between the death of Sub-Inspector Nabajit Das and the movement of drugs after he was allegedly hit by a vehicle while conducting a naka check in Laisong, Dima Hasao district, on August 14. Das, who was posted as the in-charge of Laisong Police Outpost, was on duty when the incident occurred late at night. Investigators are examining whether the vehicle entered the checkpoint accidentally or was deliberately driven into it.
Police have arrested Salim Uddin, described by investigators as a suspected wholesale drug dealer from Juria, in connection with the case. His brother Mahidul Islam and father Abdul Kuddus Faraji, along with Mofazzal Islam and Ruksana Khatun, have also been detained for questioning. Investigators are examining the possible links between the people questioned and the vehicle involved in the incident.
The police are particularly looking into why the vehicle entered the naka point and whether its occupants had any connection with the alleged movement of narcotics. The investigation is also examining the individual roles of the five people who have been questioned so far. Salim Uddin remains in police custody as investigators continue questioning him and gather information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Das’s death has drawn attention in the area, with local organisations seeking a detailed investigation and action against anyone found responsible. The incident has also raised questions over whether the vehicle’s movement into the checkpoint was connected to the police officer’s duties that night. However, authorities have not yet publicly established that the incident was intentional or that drug movement was directly responsible for his death.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and the suspected narcotics connection. Investigators are expected to examine evidence relating to the vehicle, its occupants and their movements around the time of the incident. The authorities have not yet established an exact motive, and the allegations involving the suspects remain subject to investigation.
The probe will determine whether the incident was an accident or involved a deliberate attempt to breach the police checkpoint. Authorities are also assessing whether the suspects had any established connection with narcotics networks operating in the region. Further details are expected as investigators question those detained and examine evidence collected during the investigation.
