Assam BJP backs Sarma govt on illegal migrants, child marriage ban, and land rights.

The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) adopted key political resolutions during a two-day executive committee meeting at Kalakshetra in Guwahati on Thursday. The resolutions strongly supported the Sarma government’s approach on illegal foreigners, social reforms, land rights, and development initiatives, reaffirming the party’s policy priorities in the state.

State cabinet minister Bimal Bora, briefing the media, said the resolutions reflected the government’s commitment to governance, security, and progress. The session was attended by prominent leaders including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, State BJP President Dilip Saikia, National Executive President Nitin Nabin, and Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita.

The resolutions endorsed measures to ban child marriage, prevent polygamy, and evict illegal residents from certain areas. The meeting also praised initiatives like allotting land pattas to indigenous communities, satras, maths, and temples, as well as programs to improve connectivity, including the Assam Darshan Scheme.

Other key decisions included granting tribal status to six ethnic groups, securing land rights for tea garden workers and tribal families, and resolving border disputes with Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. Financial assistance under the Atmanirbhar Assam Abhiyan and the Chief Minister’s Women Entrepreneurship Scheme for rural and urban women was also recognized.

The executive committee further applauded the government for implementing 52 of the 67 recommendations of the Justice Biplab Kumar Sarma Commission on Article 6 of the Assam Accord. Resolutions were also passed condemning alleged false narratives and misleading remarks by Congress leaders about Assam and its people, urging strict government action against such statements.
