Asaduddin Owaisi Challenges SP's Hold on Bahraich With AIMIM Campaign Launch

Owaisi launches 2027 UP campaign seeking independent Muslim political leadership in Bahraich.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday formally launched his party’s campaign for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections from Bahraich, signalling an early start to the political battle in the state. Addressing a public rally, Owaisi called for the creation of independent political leadership for Muslims and other marginalised communities, urging voters to move beyond traditional party loyalties.

During the event, Owaisi announced AIMIM Uttar Pradesh president Shaukat Ali as the party’s candidate from the Matera Assembly constituency in Bahraich. The declaration was made before a large gathering of supporters, marking one of the party’s first major candidate announcements ahead of the upcoming state elections.

Speaking at the rally, Owaisi emphasised the need for strengthening AIMIM’s organisational presence in Uttar Pradesh. He urged supporters to build a strong political base rather than depending on leaders elected through larger regional parties. His remarks focused on the importance of self-representation and independent leadership for communities he described as politically underrepresented.

Owaisi also targeted rival political groups during his address, criticising the local leadership of the Samajwadi Party in the region. He claimed that AIMIM could significantly influence the political dynamics in both Bahraich and the broader state of Uttar Pradesh in the run-up to the 2027 Assembly elections. His speech was framed as a call for political realignment and grassroots mobilisation.

The rally took place in a constituency considered a stronghold of established regional parties, making AIMIM’s outreach in the area politically notable. Party leaders positioned the event as part of a broader strategy to expand their footprint in Uttar Pradesh and strengthen their presence ahead of the state-wide electoral contest.

With the announcement of a candidate and the launch of its campaign, AIMIM appears to be preparing for an early and aggressive electoral push in Uttar Pradesh. The party’s leadership is expected to continue similar outreach programmes across other regions in the coming months as it seeks to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 elections.
