Arunachal Police Arrest Two More in Espionage Case Linked to Pakistan Handlers

Two more arrested for Pakistan espionage ring.

Arunachal Pradesh police have arrested two additional individuals from Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district on grave charges of espionage, alleging that they were methodically and covertly collecting sensitive information from multiple locations across the strategically vital northeastern border state and relaying it directly to intelligence handlers operating from Pakistan, posing a significant threat to national security.

The latest accused, identified as Aijaz Ahmed Bhat and Bashir Ahmad Ganai, both hailing from the Kupwara region, were taken into custody on December 18 through a coordinated inter-state operation, after which they were promptly transported to Itanagar for detailed questioning and further legal proceedings, thereby increasing the total number of suspects detained in this escalating espionage investigation to five.

Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Chukhu Apa addressed the media to confirm that initial probes have uncovered evidence of the suspects actively gathering and transmitting critical intelligence data to Pakistani handlers across the border, with law enforcement agencies now awaiting comprehensive forensic examination reports on confiscated electronic devices and communication records to fully ascertain the scope and depth of the information compromised.

The investigation gained momentum with prior arrests on November 21 of two individuals, Nazir Ahmad Malik and Sabir Ahmed Mir, also from Kupwara, followed by the subsequent apprehension of Shabir Ahmed Khan directly in Itanagar, all stemming from reliable intelligence alerts regarding a sophisticated spy network functioning within Arunachal Pradesh, meticulously coordinated under the leadership of Itanagar Senior Superintendent of Police Jummar Basar and his dedicated team.

Official revelations indicate that the arrested persons cleverly disguised themselves as itinerant blanket sellers to facilitate unrestricted movement and access throughout various parts of Arunachal Pradesh without arousing suspicion, while authorities have proactively issued a stern public advisory urging residents of Itanagar and surrounding areas to exercise utmost caution by thoroughly verifying identity documents and conducting police verification before renting out properties or accommodations, thereby preventing unintentional complicity in potential security risks and avoiding personal legal repercussions.
