APSRTC Bus Kills Man Crossing Road In Vijayawada, Driver Detained

A man was killed after being hit and run over by an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation bus while crossing a road at a traffic junction in Vijayawada. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera, and the footage shows several pedestrians crossing the road moments before the victim was struck by the green-and-white state transport bus.

The 46-second CCTV clip shows around eight to 10 people crossing the road at the junction. The victim, who was wearing a green T-shirt, black shorts and slip-ons and appeared to be carrying a handbag, began walking across the road with the other pedestrians. After taking a few steps, he was seen taking a mobile phone out of his pocket.

Within seconds, the APSRTC bus approached the junction and struck the man as he was crossing the road. The footage indicates that the bus did not appear to be travelling at high speed, but it failed to stop immediately after hitting him. The vehicle then ran over the victim, leaving him with fatal injuries.

According to local residents, the man may have been distracted while looking at or scrolling on his mobile phone as he crossed the road. However, police have not yet announced a final conclusion on the exact cause of the accident. Investigators are examining the sequence of events to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.

Officials said the bus driver has been detained following the incident. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and recording accounts from eyewitnesses as part of the investigation. Authorities are expected to examine the actions of the driver as well as the movements of the victim in the moments before the collision.

The fatal incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by pedestrians at busy road junctions and the risks associated with distractions while crossing roads.
