Another Suitcase Murder! Woman’s Body with Sealed Lips Found in Trolley Bag

A chilling discovery in Baguihati, on the northern outskirts of Kolkata, has left residents shaken after the body of a young woman, her lips sealed with brown tape, was found stuffed inside a trolley bag dumped by the roadside.

The grim scene unfolded Tuesday morning, intensifying fears in a city still haunted by a similar crime earlier this year.

Local residents first noticed the unattended bag on Monday night but dismissed it. By Tuesday, a vigilant newspaper vendor, puzzled by its unchanged position, alerted a senior citizen, and they contacted the Baguihati police.

Officers arrived swiftly and uncovered the body of a woman dressed in a salwar kurta inside the bag. The sealed lips and evident trauma pointed to a violent death, with police suspecting murder.

“Prima facie, it appears the woman was killed elsewhere, then placed in the bag and dumped,” an investigating official said, noting that the autopsy report will confirm the cause of death.

The police are prioritizing identifying the victim, scouring missing persons’ records and analyzing nearby CCTV footage for leads. No suspects have been named, and the motive remains unclear.

This incident recalls a disturbing February 2025 case in Kolkata’s Kumartuli, where Falguni and Aarati Ghosh, a mother-daughter duo, were arrested for attempting to dispose of a trolley bag containing the headless, dismembered body of their relative, Sumita Ghosh, in the Hooghly River. While no connection between the cases has been established, the similarities have fueled speculation and heightened public unease.
