Andhra Pradesh Man's Death On Highway Was Staged Murder, Say Police

Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 47-year-old man whose body was found with bleeding injuries on the Tirupati highway on Saturday. Investigators suspect that Subrahmanyam, a resident of Dish Colony in Pileru, may have been killed at home before his body was placed on the road.

Local residents initially believed that Subrahmanyam had been struck by an unidentified vehicle. The case took a different direction after his father, Krishnaiah, raised suspicions about the circumstances surrounding the death and named the victim’s wife, Umadevi, while speaking to police.

Krishnaiah reportedly told investigators that he had been unable to contact his son, daughter-in-law or grandson. When he reached their residence, he found the house locked, while Umadevi and her son, Lohith, were allegedly missing. Police subsequently inspected the property and examined the route connecting it to the highway.

Investigators reported finding bloodstains and began analysing CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Police said the footage and other evidence had provided important clues about the movement of a two-wheeler and the alleged transportation of Subrahmanyam’s body from the house to the highway.

Pileru Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishna Mohan said the preliminary inquiry indicated that Subrahmanyam and Umadevi had frequent disputes. The victim’s father also alleged that Umadevi was involved in an extramarital relationship. Police are examining that allegation as a possible motive and investigating whether another person helped move the body.

Umadevi and Lohith have been detained for questioning, but police have not announced any finding of guilt. Investigators are working to establish the cause of death, reconstruct the sequence of events and determine whether the killing was planned. They are also examining whether the body was deliberately left on the highway to make the death appear to be a road accident.
