Andhra Murder Accused Shot During Anantapur Scene Reconstruction

Murder accused shot after attacking police during Anantapur crime reconstruction.

A murder suspect was shot and wounded by police on Friday morning after he suddenly attacked officers during a crime scene reconstruction in Yadiki Mandal of Anantapur district, authorities said in separate regional reports. The unsettling incident occurred as investigators were retracing the steps of a suspected crime involving the killing of a young child.

The accused, identified locally as Sarvesh of Nitturu, was facing questioning in connection with the abduction and murder of his five‑year‑old nephew, Hemachandra, from Kona Uppalapadu village, police said. Hemachandra had gone missing after school on Wednesday, and his body was later discovered near Kundanakota forest with signs of strangulation, prompting a murder investigation.

Senior police officers escorted Sarvesh on Friday to the area near Kundanakota to reconstruct how the killing occurred — a standard part of investigative procedure intended to clarify timelines and suspect actions. During questioning at the scene, the man allegedly grabbed a beer bottle lying nearby and attacked constable Venkatesh Naik, officials said.

In response to the sudden assault, Circle Inspector Ramasubbaiah fired at Sarvesh, first aiming at his legs to stop the attack, according to police sources. Sarvesh continued to resist and attempt further aggression toward officers, leading the CI to fire again, leaving the suspect incapacitated with bullet wounds to both knees.

Police also sustained injuries in the altercation. Both the injured officers and Sarvesh were transported to the government hospital in Tadipatri for medical treatment, local reports said. No life‑threatening conditions have been reported for those hurt in the incident, and police said the situation was under control as the investigation continues.

The case has drawn attention not only because of the brutality of the initial crime — involving the kidnapping and murder of a young child by a relative — but also because of the violence during the official probe. Authorities are continuing to investigate the underlying circumstances of the murder and will determine next steps based on the outcome of forensic evidence and witness testimonies as the broader criminal case proceeds.
