Air Force Officer Allegedly Lured Online To Leak Defence Information To Pakistan Handler

Delhi Police have arrested an Indian Air Force Wing Commander for allegedly sharing sensitive defence information with a woman suspected of being linked to a Pakistani intelligence agency, officials said. The officer was arrested on May 31, 2026, and has been booked under the Official Secrets Act. Investigators suspect the case could be part of a wider espionage network targeting information related to India's military and national security.

According to police sources, the Wing Commander came into contact with the woman through social media while going through a difficult period in his personal life. Their interaction reportedly developed into regular conversations and video calls. Investigators allege that the woman gradually gained his trust before asking him for information concerning military activities, including details about the movement and deployment of defence units.

Police suspect the officer subsequently shared photographs, videos and other sensitive information with the woman through digital channels. Investigators are also examining allegations that he transmitted important documents and data. Agencies are now assessing the nature and extent of the information allegedly shared and determining whether it was passed on to foreign handlers and how it may have been intended to be used.

Another aspect of the investigation concerns an alleged attempt to gain access to the mobile phone of one of the officer's colleagues. Police said the woman asked the Wing Commander to install a particular application on the colleague's device. Investigators suspect that the application could have been spyware or remote-access software capable of accessing mobile data, tracking locations or monitoring communications, though its exact nature is yet to be established.

The investigation has led agencies to suspect that the woman was allegedly working for operatives based in Pakistan and that the officer may have been targeted through a honey-trap operation. Police are examining whether other defence personnel were also approached and whether attempts were made to obtain information from their devices. Investigators are working to identify other individuals who may have been involved in the suspected network and determine the location of its alleged foreign handlers.

The operation was reportedly carried out following specific inputs from the IAF's intelligence wing. After his arrest, the officer was questioned in police custody before being sent to judicial custody, and he is currently lodged in Tihar Jail. The investigation remains focused on the digital trail, including the communication platforms used, the information allegedly shared and the identities of those who may have received it. Further action will depend on the evidence gathered during the ongoing probe.
