Agra Woman Arrested After Allegedly Killing Husband With 20 Sleeping Pills And Hiding Body

Agra woman allegedly killed husband using sleeping pills

A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra has been accused of killing her husband after allegedly administering a heavy dose of sleeping pills and later burying his body inside the bathroom of their home, in a case that emerged after the man remained missing for nearly 45 days, police said. According to investigators, the case began as a routine missing person complaint filed after Surendra Sharma, a resident of Agra, failed to return home for an extended period. At first, his disappearance did not raise immediate suspicion, but inconsistencies in statements and prolonged absence eventually prompted police to launch a deeper probe into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Police have identified the accused as Ruby Sharma, the wife of the deceased. During questioning, she allegedly confessed to administering sleeping pills to her husband by mixing them into his food. Investigators said she used a significant quantity of sedatives, estimated at around 15 to 20 sleeping tablets, which caused him to fall into a deep and unresponsive sleep. Authorities stated that once Surendra Sharma became unconscious due to the heavy dosage, Ruby Sharma allegedly proceeded to kill him. While officials have not disclosed the exact method of the subsequent act, they confirmed that the administration of the sedatives played a central role in incapacitating the victim before his death.

Following the alleged crime, the body was reportedly concealed and buried within the bathroom area of the couple’s residence. Police believe this was done in an attempt to prevent immediate detection and delay any investigation into the disappearance. The unusual concealment inside the house itself added complexity to the case and initially helped avoid suspicion during the early days of the search. For several days after Surendra Sharma went missing, Ruby Sharma reportedly told neighbours and relatives that he was away from home and would return soon. This explanation was repeated consistently whenever questions were raised, which initially helped maintain the impression of a normal missing person case.

However, as days turned into weeks, relatives began to grow increasingly concerned and informed authorities. Police sources said that during sustained questioning, contradictions in Ruby Sharma’s statements led investigators to intensify their search inside the residence. It was during this phase that the concealed burial site inside the bathroom was allegedly discovered, marking a major breakthrough in the case. The discovery shocked local residents and transformed what was initially believed to be a disappearance into a homicide investigation.

Authorities have since taken the accused into custody, and further forensic examination is underway to determine the exact sequence of events leading to Surendra Sharma’s death. Officials are also examining whether any additional individuals were aware of or involved in the crime, although no other arrests have been made so far. The investigation remains ongoing, with police working to reconstruct the timeline of events and verify all statements through forensic and digital evidence. The case has drawn strong attention in the local area due to its disturbing nature and the manner in which the alleged crime was concealed within the family home for an extended period before being uncovered.
