Adani Energy Hits 1 Crore Smart Meters Milestone Ahead of Target

Adani Energy Solutions installs 1 crore smart meters across India, achieving the fastest industry pace ahead of schedule.

Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) has achieved a major milestone by successfully delivering 1 crore electricity smart meters across multiple distribution companies (discoms), becoming the first company in India—and possibly globally—to do so. The company has announced that the next 1 crore smart meters are expected to be delivered in the coming financial year FY27, reflecting its accelerated execution pace.

As India’s leading Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP), AESL has been mandated to install a total of 2.5 crore smart meters across five states. With an industry-leading installation rate of nearly 25,000 smart meters per day, the company has established the highest daily deployment scale in the sector.

Commenting on the achievement, Kandarp Patel, CEO of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, said the milestone reflects the company’s strong execution capabilities and close collaboration with distribution utilities and consumers. He noted that smart meters play a critical role in enabling real-time energy usage data, improving billing transparency, reducing losses, and enhancing grid reliability.

The milestone was achieved well ahead of AESL’s earlier guidance of March 31, 2026, highlighting its commitment to accelerating digital transformation in retail electricity distribution. The smart meter rollout supports grid modernisation and aligns with the Government of India’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which aims to improve the financial and operational health of discoms.

AESL attributed its rapid progress to an integrated ecosystem approach, including partnerships with group companies such as Adani Esyasoft Smart Solutions for metering and IoT services, and AdaniConneX for local data hosting. The company also collaborated with tier-I meter manufacturers to ensure timely delivery and long-term platform relevance.

Launched in 2024, AESL’s smart metering initiative reached the 1 crore mark in just about 24 months, making it the fastest rollout of its kind in the country. Under the RDSS initiative, India plans to replace 25 crore conventional electricity meters with smart meters, positioning AESL as a key contributor to the nation’s digital energy transition.
