Actor Darshan’s Bail Cancelled in Murder Case
Supreme Court overturns Karnataka HC’s bail for Darshan.
In a dramatic turn, the Supreme Court on Thursday revoked the bail granted to Kannada actor Darshan in the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case, slamming the Karnataka High Court’s decision as flawed.
A bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan ruled that the Karnataka High Court’s December 13, 2024, order granting bail to Darshan was riddled with “serious infirmities” and reflected a “mechanical exercise.” The court emphasized that the trial court is the appropriate forum for such matters, not the high court at a pre-trial stage. “The well-founded allegations and forensic evidence justify the cancellation of bail,” the bench declared.
The ruling came in response to an appeal by the Karnataka government challenging the high court’s decision. Darshan, along with actress Pavithra Gowda and others, faces charges of abducting and torturing 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan who allegedly sent obscene messages to Gowda. Police claim Renukaswamy was held in a Bengaluru shed for three days in June 2024, tortured, and his body was later found in a drain.

The Supreme Court had issued notices to Darshan, Gowda, and co-accused on January 24, 2025, following the state’s plea. This development intensifies the legal battle in a case that has gripped public attention, raising questions about celebrity accountability.
