81 Detained as Police Raid Silver Jubilee Party With Foreign Liquor in Sanand

Police raid exposes illegal foreign liquor and hookah at elite silver jubilee event near Ahmedabad, detaining 81.

A lavish silver jubilee celebration held on the outskirts of Ahmedabad has come under scrutiny after visuals and reports revealed the presence of foreign liquor, hookah setups and luxury cars, raising questions over compliance with Gujarat’s strict prohibition laws. The event, hosted to mark 25 years of a private business venture, reportedly drew a large gathering of guests and featured high-end arrangements more commonly associated with elite destination parties.

According to officials familiar with the matter, the celebration was organised at a private venue and showcased an array of premium foreign liquor brands, elaborate hookah lounges and a display of luxury vehicles parked at the site. Videos circulating on social media showed guests enjoying the festivities late into the night, prompting public criticism given that Gujarat has enforced a ban on alcohol for decades.

Following the emergence of the footage, local authorities initiated a preliminary inquiry to ascertain whether any violations of state laws had taken place. Officials said they were examining the authenticity of the visuals, identifying the organisers and determining whether liquor was served or consumed illegally during the event. No official confirmation has yet been issued on arrests or seizures linked directly to the celebration.

Under Gujarat’s prohibition regime, the manufacture, sale and consumption of alcohol are banned, with limited exceptions granted through permits for medical or specific official purposes. Past cases involving high-profile parties and illegal liquor have often led to police action, fines and legal proceedings against organisers and suppliers.

The incident has also reignited debate over enforcement and alleged double standards, with critics arguing that while common citizens face strict checks, elite gatherings sometimes appear to bypass scrutiny. Social media users questioned how such large-scale arrangements involving liquor and luxury amenities could be organised without detection.

Authorities said further action would depend on the findings of the ongoing probe, adding that no one would be spared if violations are established. The case has once again brought attention to the challenges of enforcing prohibition laws in Gujarat, particularly in high-profile social events involving influential hosts and guests.
