3-Year-Old Girl Dies After Falling Into Rain-Flooded Street in Ghaziabad

Heavy rain floods Ghaziabad, claims life of three-year-old girl.

A three-year-old girl died after slipping and falling into rainwater accumulated on a flooded street outside her home as heavy rainfall disrupted normal life across Ghaziabad on Thursday. The child, identified as Manvi, lived in the Sarvodaya Nagar area under the jurisdiction of Vijay Nagar police station. Witnesses said she had stopped breathing by the time people realised what had happened.

The incident triggered anger among local residents, who raised concerns over severe waterlogging in the area and demanded action to prevent similar tragedies. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Heavy rainfall left several parts of Ghaziabad inundated, creating dangerous conditions for residents and severely affecting movement across the city.

The Ghaziabad district administration declared a holiday for government schools as authorities dealt with widespread rain-related disruption. Severe waterlogging was reported near the Ghazipur border on National Highway-9, resulting in long traffic jams on the busy Delhi-Ghaziabad route. Commuters faced major delays as vehicles struggled to move through flooded stretches of road.

In another rain-related incident, a section of road in Vasundhara Sector 13 caved in beside an under-construction basement following incessant rainfall. A parked car and a scooter fell into the pit, while a nearby electricity pole tilted towards the crater. No injuries were reported in the incident, although both vehicles suffered extensive damage.

Neighbouring Noida also witnessed severe waterlogging, with areas including Sectors 16, 33 and 12 among those affected. Knee-deep water was reported at several locations, making movement difficult for pedestrians and two-wheeler riders. Several motorcycles and scooters stalled after water entered their exhaust systems, forcing riders to push their vehicles through inundated roads.

Some commuters were seen walking along roadside dividers to cross flooded stretches as rain continued to affect daily life across the region. The death of the three-year-old girl has intensified concerns over the dangers posed by waterlogged residential streets during periods of heavy rainfall. Authorities are continuing to assess the disruption while police investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
