Twenty-seven LPG cylinders, including five filled ones, were stolen from a delivery vehicle in Mumbai, prompting a police investigation, officials said. The incident occurred in Charkop, Kandivali (West), amid concerns over gas supply due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has affected global energy markets and raised prices for cooking gas in India.

The delivery man, Nandkumar Ramraj Soni, filed a complaint stating that he had parked his tempo loaded with LPG cylinders at Kaka Keni Chowk near his home on March 25. When he returned the next day, March 26, he found the door glass shattered and the rear lock broken. A total of 27 cylinders, including five filled and 22 empty, had been taken from the vehicle.

Police have formed multiple investigation teams to trace the suspects behind the theft. Authorities are examining the area, collecting evidence, and reviewing CCTV footage to identify individuals involved. Several vehicles and suspects were captured on cameras, and efforts are underway to match the images with leads in the case.

This theft highlights a growing concern over the security of LPG supplies, which are critical for households and businesses. India relies heavily on imported liquefied petroleum gas, and any disruption in the supply chain can affect prices and availability. Delivery personnel are being urged to take extra precautions while transporting cylinders, especially in areas prone to theft.

Officials said the case is being treated seriously, and steps are being taken to prevent similar incidents. “We are working closely with local communities and transporters to ensure that LPG delivery vehicles are monitored and protected,” a police official said.

The ongoing investigation seeks to recover the stolen cylinders and apprehend the culprits. Authorities have appealed to the public to provide any information that may help trace the stolen goods and bring those responsible to justice, stressing the importance of community cooperation in safeguarding essential supplies.
