21-Year-Old Pleads Guilty In Plot To Attack Taylor Swift Vienna Concert

Austrian man pleads guilty in terror plot targeting Taylor Swift concert, leading to 2024 show cancellations.

A 21-year-old Austrian man has pleaded guilty in court to involvement in a jihadist-linked plot targeting a Taylor Swift concert, an attack that led to the cancellation of multiple shows in Austria during the singer’s 2024 “Eras Tour.” The accused, identified as Beran A., appeared before a court in Wiener Neustadt, near Vienna, where he was escorted into the courtroom by masked police officers. He is facing terror-related charges for allegedly participating in planning a violent attack on one of the concerts. His lawyer stated that he has admitted to most allegations but denies intent to commit attempted murder.

Prosecutors have alleged that Beran A. was part of an Islamic State (IS)-linked network and had been active in promoting extremist propaganda since 2023. They claim he was involved in efforts to plan an attack on the concert, including attempts to acquire weapons and construct an explosive device designed to maximize harm. Authorities further allege that he received instructions related to explosives from individuals connected to IS.

The investigation revealed that the planned attack was aimed at one of the Austrian stops on Taylor Swift’s record-breaking “Eras Tour,” leading to the cancellation of three scheduled concerts in Austria in 2024. Security agencies, acting on intelligence reportedly shared by US authorities, intervened just days before the shows were due to take place, preventing what officials described as a serious security threat.

Beran A. is being tried alongside another 21-year-old co-accused, while a third individual allegedly linked to the group is currently imprisoned in Saudi Arabia. Prosecutors claim the trio formed a “highly dangerous IS terror cell” with plans to carry out multiple attacks in different locations, including abroad. One associated individual is accused of a separate stabbing incident in Mecca in 2024.

The trial, expected to last four days, could result in a prison sentence of up to 20 years if Beran A. is convicted. The case has drawn international attention due to the targeting of a high-profile global music event and has raised concerns about the evolving nature of terror plots involving major public gatherings. Swift later described the cancellation as emotionally distressing, citing fear and guilt over the disrupted concerts.
