CEC Gyanesh Kumar begins two-day Lucknow visit ahead of UP polls.

Ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar arrived in Lucknow on Monday for a two-day visit focused on electoral preparedness, voter awareness and transparency. The Election Commission of India delegation will interact with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), students, teachers and other stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen understanding of the electoral process.

Speaking to reporters after his arrival, Kumar recalled his connection with Lucknow, where he completed his education before pursuing higher studies at IIT. He described his return to the city as an opportunity to convey a message to voters across Uttar Pradesh and said the visit would include interactions with BLOs, whom he described as the foundation of democracy.

The ECI delegation is expected to review initial preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections and assess the functioning of electoral machinery at the grassroots level. Kumar said programmes would also be organised at universities and schools across Uttar Pradesh to promote transparency and help students and other participants understand the electoral process.
