₹18 Crore Jewellery Heist at Bengaluru House by Domestic Staff

Domestic workers allegedly looted jewellery and cash worth ₹18 crore from a Bengaluru home while the family was away.

A massive jewellery heist has rocked a Bengaluru household, with thieves escaping with about 11.5 kg of gold and diamond jewellery, 5 kg of silver ornaments, and cash of Rs 11.5 lakh. The incident occurred while the family was away attending a ceremony on January 25.

According to police reports, the family employed multiple domestic staff, including cook Ambika, staffer Siddharam, and two housekeeping workers, Dinesh (32) and Kamala (25), who had joined the home just 20 days prior. Police suspect that the accused exploited their insider knowledge of the household.

At approximately 12:38 pm, the cook allegedly informed the family that Dinesh, Kamala, and accomplices had broken into cupboards and fled. When the family returned, they found the ground-floor locker forced open with an iron rod and valuables missing.

The first-floor locker was also broken into, resulting in the theft of 1.5 kg of gold, 5 kg of silver jewellery, and cash. The complainant stated that the accused staff had carefully observed the family’s movements and struck when the home was empty.

Bengaluru police have registered a case against Dinesh, Kamala, and others. Investigations are underway to locate the accused and recover the stolen jewellery and cash, with authorities scrutinizing the household staff and their recent employment history.
