132 Kg Rotten Food Seized From Bengaluru Restaurants, Pubs During Food Safety Raids

Food safety officials in Bengaluru intensified inspections of restaurants and pubs, seizing or disposing of 132 kilograms of food articles and 15 litres of used cooking oil during a fresh enforcement drive on Sunday. The inspections covered multiple establishments across the city and were aimed at checking compliance with food safety standards.

At Hotel Sky in UB City, officials found the largest quantity of food deemed unfit for consumption. The inspection resulted in the disposal of 45 kilograms of rotten chicken and beef along with 6 kilograms of vegetable cutlets. Officials also disposed of 15 litres of used cooking oil found during the inspection.

At other establishments, officials reported additional seizures. The Royal Chain Hotel had 50 kilograms of duck and 5 kilograms of fish seized, while 5 kilograms of green peas were seized from Madras Kitchen. Another 5 kilograms of mushrooms were seized from Tescon Hotel during the inspection drive.

At Sanchez Hotel, officials seized 3 kilograms of fish. They also found 7 kilograms of cake, potatoes and tacos that were considered unfit for consumption and were subsequently discarded. Taken together, the inspections resulted in 132 kilograms of food articles being seized or disposed of across the establishments covered during the drive.

The latest enforcement action comes days after inspections at several prominent five-star hotels in Bengaluru uncovered food safety violations. Establishments inspected during the earlier drive included The Lalit Ashok (Annex South), Shangri-La Bengaluru, Four Seasons Hotel Bengaluru, Vivanta Bengaluru Whitefield, Taj Yeshwantpur and Radisson Blu (The Atria).

During those earlier inspections, officials had found expired milk, rotten meat and fungal growth on vegetables. The findings prompted increased monitoring of food safety practices at hospitality establishments across the city, with the latest inspections indicating that enforcement activity is continuing at restaurants and pubs.
