₹12,000 Crore Drug Syndicate Exposed as Cops Arrest 12 in Factory Bust
Rs 12,000 crore drug racket busted in Telangana.
The Mira Road Police from Maharashtra’s Thane district dismantled a massive drug manufacturing syndicate in Telangana’s Cheramalli area, seizing mephedrone (MD) drugs valued at Rs 12,000 crore. The operation, conducted jointly by the Mira-Bhayander, Vasai-Virar Police, and the crime branch, also uncovered 35,000 liters of chemicals used in drug production during raids at a facility disguised as a chemical factory.
Authorities estimate that the syndicate, operational for several years, produced and supplied hundreds of kilograms of mephedrone, primarily to Mumbai through local criminals and agents.
The breakthrough followed a month-long surveillance effort triggered by a tip-off, leading to coordinated raids across over 60 locations. Among the 12 individuals arrested is a Bangladeshi woman, Fatima Murad Sheikh alias Mollah (23), apprehended last month in Mira Road with drugs worth Rs 24 lakh.
The mastermind, identified as an IT expert, allegedly leveraged their chemical expertise to orchestrate the illicit operation, highlighting a sophisticated misuse of technical knowledge. The arrests mark a significant blow to the drug trafficking network, which had been operating covertly under the guise of legitimate industrial activity.
This bust underscores the growing challenge of drug trafficking in India and the critical role of inter-state police collaboration in tackling such syndicates. The seized mephedrone, a highly addictive synthetic stimulant, represents one of the largest drug hauls in recent years.
Authorities are continuing investigations to trace the syndicate’s supply chain and identify additional accomplices, with efforts focused on dismantling the network’s Mumbai connections and preventing further proliferation of illegal narcotics in the region.
