10 Dead, 20 Injured in Horrific Head-On Bus Collision – Driver's Side Completely Ripped Off
Two Tamil Nadu government buses collide near Kummangudi, killing 10 and injuring 20 in Sivaganga district.
A tragic head-on collision between two Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) buses claimed at least 10 lives and injured over 20 passengers near Kummangudi in Sivaganga district on Sunday evening. The accident occurred around 5 km from Pillaiyarpatti in the Tirupattur area, with one bus traveling from Tiruppur to Karaikudi and the other from Karaikudi toward Dindigul. Eyewitnesses and police described a chaotic scene where locals and fellow passengers initiated rescue efforts amid mangled wreckage.
Images from the site revealed the driver's side of one bus completely torn off, with the windshield shattered and bodies laid out in rows on the ground. Videos captured a woman jumping from the front of the damaged vehicle and another seated nearby with blood streaming from her forehead. A police officer confirmed the casualty figures to NDTV, noting that public assistance was crucial in extracting victims from the debris before emergency teams arrived.
Emergency response teams swiftly transported the injured to nearby hospitals, though officials await detailed updates on their conditions and the precise cause of the crash. Preliminary indications point to possible speeding or poor visibility, but investigations continue. This incident marks the second major bus collision in southern Tamil Nadu within a week, following a Tenkasi district crash last week that killed six due to suspected reckless driving.
The repeated accidents highlight ongoing road safety concerns on busy inter-district routes, where government buses serve millions daily. Authorities have urged stricter enforcement of traffic rules and driver training. Families of the victims await further information as relief measures proceed.
