Xi Jinping Proposes Four-Point Framework For Middle East Peace And Security

Xi Jinping proposes four-point Middle East peace plan amid escalating US-Iran tensions.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has proposed a four-point peace plan aimed at reducing tensions and promoting long-term stability in the Middle East, even as geopolitical friction escalates between the United States and Iran and ceasefire-related negotiations remain uncertain.

According to China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency, Xi outlined the proposal during a meeting on Tuesday with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The initiative comes at a time when Washington and Tehran are reportedly considering further talks following the breakdown of discussions held in Pakistan.

The first element of Xi’s proposal calls for the establishment of peaceful coexistence among countries in the Middle East and Gulf region, urging nations to improve diplomatic relations and work toward a sustainable regional security framework. He stressed that long-term stability depends on cooperation rather than confrontation.

Secondly, Xi emphasised respect for national sovereignty, warning against violations of territorial integrity and calling for adherence to internationally recognised borders. He said that security and sovereignty of regional states must be upheld to prevent further instability.

The third point of the plan highlights the importance of maintaining the global international system centred on the United Nations. Xi warned against a return to global disorder and said multilateral institutions must remain central in addressing international conflicts and crises.

Finally, Xi called for integrating development with security, stating that economic progress should go hand in hand with regional stability. He added that China would share aspects of its modernisation experience to support development efforts in the Middle East and Gulf region.

Meanwhile, Beijing criticised the United States, with officials describing Washington’s recent actions toward Iranian ports as “dangerous and irresponsible.” Chinese authorities also said they would play a constructive role in promoting peace, while rejecting claims that China may face penalties over its ties with Iran.

Tensions have further escalated after former U.S. President Donald Trump threatened tariffs and sanctions related to Iran-linked trade activity, while also warning of additional measures against China. Chinese officials have dismissed such allegations and warned of countermeasures if new trade restrictions are imposed.
