Viral Video Shows Heavy Traffic On Bengaluru–Mangaluru Highway During Long Weekend

Long weekend rush causes heavy traffic on highway route

A viral video showing severe traffic congestion on the Bengaluru–Mangaluru highway has captured widespread attention online, highlighting the heavy rush of vehicles during a long weekend exodus from the city.

The footage circulating on social media shows a long stretch of cars and two-wheelers moving in slow, bumper-to-bumper traffic on the highway, with little to no visible movement for extended periods. The scene reflects the familiar travel chaos that often emerges when Bengaluru residents head out of the city for short holidays and extended weekends.

According to reports and online posts accompanying the video, the congestion was triggered by a sharp increase in outbound traffic as people travelled towards popular destinations in coastal Karnataka and nearby hill regions. The Bengaluru–Mangaluru highway, a key route connecting the state capital with the coast, is frequently prone to heavy traffic during peak travel periods, especially holidays.

The viral clip quickly sparked reactions on social media, with users pointing out that long weekend travel patterns have become predictable in and around Bengaluru. Many commented that outbound routes typically witness severe bottlenecks even when city roads inside Bengaluru appear relatively free-flowing during such breaks.

Traffic experts and regular commuters note that the highway’s congestion is often worsened by narrow stretches, ongoing roadwork in certain sections, and the sheer volume of private vehicles leaving the city at similar times. These factors combine to create extended delays, particularly during holiday rush hours.

While no official disruption or accident was reported in connection with the viral video, the visual serves as another reminder of the infrastructure strain on major intercity highways in Karnataka during peak travel periods. Authorities continue to advise motorists to plan journeys in advance and stagger travel times during long weekends to avoid congestion.
