Violence Erupts in Saroornagar Over Food Bill Discount; Owner, Cashier Injured

Men beat Hyderabad hotel staff over extra discount on Rs 5,900 bill.

Hyderabad police have launched a manhunt after a violent attack on restaurant staff in the Saroornagar area over a dispute related to a ₹5,900 food bill, leaving multiple employees, including the owner and cashier, injured. The incident occurred late on May 2 and has led to the registration of a criminal case under multiple serious charges.

According to a complaint filed by cashier Nagendra, a group of four men arrived at the restaurant around 9:30 pm and dined for nearly two hours before being presented with the bill. When the total amount came to ₹5,900, the customers allegedly demanded a discount. The restaurant reportedly offered a 10% concession, but the group insisted on a larger reduction.

The situation escalated after staff refused to waive further charges. The complainant stated that the accused claimed connections to a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) office and attempted to pressure the staff. When their demand was not accepted, the group allegedly left the premises but later returned with an additional 20–30 individuals.

The mob is accused of being armed with sticks and knives during the second confrontation. They allegedly assaulted restaurant staff, including the owner and cashier, and caused significant damage to the establishment’s property, including the kitchen area. Several employees sustained injuries and were later provided medical treatment, with officials confirming that they are now out of danger.

Following the complaint, police registered a case under sections related to unlawful assembly, assault, criminal intimidation, and property damage. Authorities have identified some of the suspects through CCTV footage and witness accounts, and special teams have been deployed to track down those involved.

Investigators have named two primary accused, Yedula Prasan Reddy and Yedula Yashwanth Reddy, both of whom are reportedly known to police from prior cases. The alleged claim of links to a DCP office is also under verification as the investigation continues.
