Vijay Announces ₹12,300 Crore UK Investments, Expected To Create 9,000 Jobs In Tamil Nadu
Vijay's UK deals promise 9,000 jobs
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay signed at least four investment agreements in the United Kingdom involving proposed investments of around Rs 12,300 crore, with the projects expected to create nearly 9,000 jobs, according to the state government. The agreements were signed during Vijay's visit to the UK as part of efforts to attract investment and expand employment opportunities in Tamil Nadu. The projects cover areas including manufacturing, engineering, logistics and Global Capability Centres (GCCs). The largest agreement is with Samvardhana Motherson International Limited for an investment of Rs 11,000 crore.
According to the state government, the project has the potential to generate around 7,000 jobs across a range of activities, including design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly and logistics. The proposed investment is expected to strengthen the company's operations while contributing to Tamil Nadu's industrial and employment ecosystem. Another major agreement involves a British company and an investment of Rs 1,000 crore to develop a Global Capability Centre in Chennai. The agreement was facilitated through Ernst & Young. The proposed centre is expected to come up along the upcoming GCC corridor in Chennai and could generate around 2,000 high-value jobs.
GCCs typically undertake functions such as technology, engineering, research, business operations and other specialised services for global companies. The state government said the proposed Chennai centre would add to Tamil Nadu's growing presence in the global capability and technology services sector. The creation of around 2,000 high-value positions is expected to provide employment opportunities in specialised fields while further strengthening Chennai's position as a destination for multinational companies establishing or expanding their global operations. A separate agreement was signed with Sweden-based Sigma Technology Group for the expansion of its Global Capability Centres in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli.

The expansion is expected to create around 600 high-value jobs. The project will broaden the company's presence in Tamil Nadu and add to employment opportunities in technology and other specialised services in the two cities. The agreements form part of the Tamil Nadu government's efforts to secure fresh investments from international companies and strengthen the state's position as a preferred destination for global businesses. The focus on both manufacturing and high-value services also reflects the state's broader attempt to attract investments across different sectors rather than relying on a single industry. The proposed investments could contribute to employment generation and expand industrial and technology-related activity in Tamil Nadu.
The projects announced in the UK include large-scale manufacturing and logistics opportunities as well as GCC expansion, providing a combination of jobs across operational and highly specialised functions. The state government has highlighted the agreements as an important outcome of Vijay's UK visit and its efforts to deepen economic ties with international businesses. With the four agreements involving around Rs 12,300 crore in proposed investments and the potential to create nearly 9,000 jobs, the announcements represent a significant set of commitments for Tamil Nadu. The projects will require subsequent implementation and development before the proposed employment opportunities are fully realised. The state government is expected to work with the companies involved to facilitate the investments and support the development of the proposed facilities in Chennai, Tiruchirappalli and other locations connected to the projects.
