Valentino Garavani Honoured Women With Beauty: Giancarlo Giammetti Pays Tribute
Giancarlo Giammetti praises Valentino Garavani's focus on beauty and respect for women after death at 93.
Italian fashion icon Valentino Garavani, who passed away at the age of 93, leaves behind a legacy of elegance, artistry, and respect for women, his long-time partner Giancarlo Giammetti said on Tuesday. Reflecting on Valentino’s life and work outside the designer’s Rome headquarters, Giammetti described how the legendary couturier always celebrated beauty in his creations.
“He always said, ‘It’s not my fault; I just like beauty,’” Giammetti told journalists, highlighting Valentino’s lifelong devotion to crafting designs that empowered women. Known for his impeccable sense of style, Valentino founded his fashion house in 1960 and went on to dress some of the world’s most iconic women, from Elizabeth Taylor and Nancy Reagan to Sharon Stone and Julia Roberts.
Valentino’s creations became synonymous with red-carpet glamour, with his signature “Valentino red” gowns earning global acclaim. Over decades, he consistently emphasised that fashion should “serve to embellish and not overwhelm,” a philosophy that informed his elegant and timeless designs.

Beyond clothing, Giammetti said Valentino’s work carried a deeper message of respect for women. His designs were never merely ornamental; they were meant to highlight and honour the individual wearing them. This ethos, according to Giammetti, distinguished Valentino from many of his contemporaries in the fashion industry.
Colleagues, celebrities, and fashion enthusiasts worldwide have paid tribute to the designer’s influence, noting that his impact extended far beyond couture. Valentino’s approach combined artistry, sensitivity, and empowerment, leaving a lasting mark on the global fashion landscape. As the fashion world mourns, Valentino’s legacy endures through his creations and the principles he championed: beauty, elegance, and the celebration of women in all their diversity.
