US Secretary of State Rubio Meets Jaishankar; Emphasizes Strategic Nature of India Partnership
US Secretary of State Rubio tells Jaishankar that the India-US partnership is strategically critical globally.
Marco Rubio has described India and the United States as “strategic allies” rather than just traditional partners during delegation-level talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi. Rubio made the remarks while highlighting the growing depth and global scope of cooperation between the two countries during his ongoing four-day visit to India.
Speaking during the bilateral discussions, Rubio said the relationship between India and the US extends far beyond regional interests and has evolved into a broader strategic partnership with worldwide significance. According to him, the two nations work together across multiple global issues and regions, making the partnership distinct from many other diplomatic relationships maintained by Washington.
“The US and India aren't just allies. We are strategic allies,” Rubio said during the talks, stressing that cooperation between the two democracies continues to expand in areas including global security, economic engagement, and geopolitical coordination. He also indicated that both countries are exploring opportunities to strengthen collaboration in different parts of the world through shared strategic interests.

The meeting between Rubio and Jaishankar focused on several bilateral and international issues, including regional stability, trade, defense cooperation, and evolving geopolitical challenges. The discussions come at a time when India-US relations have witnessed increasing engagement across sectors such as technology, defense manufacturing, energy, and Indo-Pacific security initiatives.
Rubio’s India visit is being closely watched as both nations continue efforts to deepen ties amid shifting global political dynamics. Over the past few years, India and the United States have significantly expanded cooperation through forums such as the Quad and through multiple defense and technology agreements aimed at strengthening strategic coordination.
Diplomatic observers believe Rubio’s remarks reflect Washington’s continued emphasis on India as a key strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. The visit is expected to include further meetings and discussions aimed at enhancing long-term collaboration between the two countries on regional and global issues.
