UP CM Orders Probe After Around 170 Sheep Die Under Mysterious Circumstances in Lucknow

Approximately 170 sheep succumbed to unexplained causes in the vicinity of the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal in Lucknow, triggering widespread concern and an official investigation into whether the deaths resulted from disease outbreak, accidental poisoning through ingested waste, or deliberate malicious acts. The incident, reported days following a large public gathering at the site, has raised alarms about potential environmental hazards or negligence in post-event cleanup operations.
Charu Khare, founder of the animal welfare organization Aasra The Helping Hands Trust, lodged a detailed complaint at Madiaon police station, stressing the abrupt nature of the fatalities and calling for exhaustive forensic analysis including mandatory post-mortem examinations on multiple carcasses. She highlighted possibilities ranging from consumption of toxic debris left behind to intentional administration of poison, urging authorities to pursue all leads rigorously.
Khare characterized the episode as profoundly serious and sensitive, pointing out that elements of animal cruelty or administrative lapses cannot be overlooked in such a concentrated loss of livestock. Her NGO committed to providing comprehensive assistance throughout the inquiry, including support for evidence collection and witness coordination to facilitate a transparent outcome.

Station House Officer Shivanand Mishra at Madiaon confirmed the dispatch of tissue and organ samples to specialized laboratories for toxicological and pathological testing, with preliminary findings anticipated to guide further investigative directions. Police are also examining the site for residual contaminants and interviewing local shepherds to establish a timeline of events.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath swiftly intervened upon learning of the incident, directing senior officials to oversee a thorough multi-agency probe while announcing immediate compensation of Rs 10,000 per deceased sheep to alleviate financial distress for affected owners. The government's proactive measures reflect determination to uncover the root cause and prevent recurrence.
