Uganda Vice President Reaches New Delhi To Attend BRICS Summit

Uganda Vice President arrives in Delhi for the BRICS Summit.

Uganda’s Vice President Jessica Alupo arrived in New Delhi on Friday to attend the 18th BRICS Summit, scheduled to be held on September 12 and 13. She was received at the airport by Union Minister of State Jayant Singh as leaders and representatives from BRICS member and partner countries began arriving in the national capital for the high-level gathering.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) welcomed Alupo and highlighted the relationship between India and Uganda. In a post on X, the ministry said the two countries share “warm and friendly ties” rooted in their shared history and an expanding contemporary partnership across bilateral and multilateral spheres.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa also arrived in New Delhi earlier on Friday to attend the summit. He was received at the airport by MoS Jayant Singh. Welcoming Ramaphosa, the MEA described India and South Africa as having warm and historic ties anchored in a Strategic Partnership and said their commitment as BRICS partners to the Global South remains strong.

India, as the BRICS Chair in 2026, will host the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The summit will bring together leaders of BRICS member countries, partner nations and outreach invitees. According to the MEA, discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation within BRICS on shared priorities and exchanging perspectives on global and regional issues of mutual importance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier said leaders from across the world would gather in New Delhi for the summit and expressed confidence that the meeting would result in positive and meaningful discussions. Modi said the deliberations would address various issues while keeping the welfare of the world in mind.

Bharat Mandapam was being prepared on Thursday night to host the high-profile gathering, with leaders and representatives expected to participate in the summit from September 12 to 13. The official 18th BRICS Summit account said the capital was making final preparations for the event, with Bharat Mandapam being readied to host the international gathering.
