UAE Arrests 19 Indians For Fake War Videos on Social Media, Expedited Trial Ordered

UAE arrests 19 Indians for spreading fabricated war content on social media.

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have ordered the arrest of 35 individuals, including 19 Indian nationals, for allegedly posting misleading or fabricated content on social media during the ongoing regional conflict involving Iran. Officials said the suspects circulated manipulated videos and false narratives online related to missile activity and military developments in the region. The action follows an investigation that identified multiple social media posts that authorities believe could mislead the public and create unnecessary panic during a period of heightened geopolitical tension.

The arrests were announced in two separate phases, with the most recent group involving 25 individuals of various nationalities, including 17 Indians. This was in addition to a previous list of 10 suspects, which included two Indians, who were already placed under investigation earlier. Authorities said the accused individuals are expected to face expedited legal proceedings following the completion of preliminary investigations into their online activities and alleged role in spreading misleading information.

According to a statement issued by Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, authorities have intensified monitoring of digital platforms to prevent the spread of false information and manipulated media during the conflict. Investigations reportedly found that the accused individuals were divided into three separate groups, each responsible for different types of online activity involving misleading or fabricated content. Officials said such monitoring is part of the country’s broader effort to maintain public order and prevent misinformation from influencing public perception.

The first group allegedly circulated authentic video clips showing missile interceptions or aerial activity in the country’s airspace, but added commentary, sound effects, or edited visuals that suggested active attacks or widespread destruction. Authorities said these posts could expose sensitive defense capabilities and potentially allow hostile actors to manipulate public narratives. Some of the videos also showed gatherings of people watching the events, accompanied by commentary that authorities claim exaggerated the situation.

The second group allegedly shared fabricated or manipulated footage created using artificial intelligence tools or repurposed videos from incidents outside the UAE, falsely presenting them as events occurring within the country. Officials said these clips included digitally generated scenes depicting explosions, missile strikes, and fires near major landmarks, sometimes accompanied by national flags, dates, or captions intended to make the content appear credible and authentic.

Under UAE law, spreading such misleading information online can result in serious penalties, including imprisonment for at least one year and fines starting at 100,000 dirhams. Authorities said the investigation also uncovered videos praising a hostile state and its leadership, which prosecutors argued could undermine national security and stability. The crackdown comes amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region as the conflict involving Iran continues to raise security concerns across neighboring countries.
