TVK Leader Faces Allegation After Woman Reports Harassment Complaint
Woman alleges harassment by TVK leader as police examine complaint.
A functionary of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has been taken into police custody in Karur district after a 25-year-old married woman accused him of sexually harassing her for several months and allegedly attempting to kidnap her. The accused, identified as Ramesh, serves as the TVK Krishnarayapuram East union secretary and is currently undergoing treatment at Kulithalai Government Hospital.
According to the woman’s complaint filed with Karur Police, Ramesh allegedly harassed her for around three months while she worked at a medical store in Malaiyappa Nagar, Kulithalai. She alleged that he frequently stood outside her workplace, made inappropriate remarks and gestures, and followed her while she was returning home. The woman said she informed her family about the alleged harassment, following which her husband began accompanying her to and from work for the past two months.
Police said the alleged incident took place when the woman’s husband was unable to pick her up from work and her younger sister went instead. While the woman was walking home, Ramesh allegedly stopped her on the road and attempted to take her away against her will. The woman immediately contacted her relatives, who rushed to the spot along with other members of the public who had gathered there.

The woman’s family has accused Kulithalai Police of delaying action and alleged that the accused was being protected because of his political association. Police officials have not issued a response to the allegation but stated that further legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation. The incident has created tension in the area, with authorities monitoring the situation.
The matter has also drawn political reactions, with DMK MP Kanimozhi questioning the law and order situation in the state.
