Trump Lays Out Midterm Agenda Ahead Of 2026 US Elections

US President Donald Trump has unveiled a sweeping Republican agenda for the November midterm elections, urging voters to retain his party’s control of Congress. Speaking at a Republican convention in Dallas, Trump outlined proposed changes involving healthcare payments, taxes, prescription drug prices, immigration, voting rules and criminal justice policies.
Trump told supporters to approach the congressional elections as though his own name were on the ballot, stressing the importance of the contest to his administration. “You've got to pretend I'm on the ticket,” he said, describing the election as one of the most important. The midterm elections will determine control of both chambers of Congress for the remaining two years of his term.
On healthcare, Trump pledged that a Republican victory would enable his administration to end federal payments to major health insurance companies and instead provide the money directly to individuals. He said people would be able to use the funds to purchase healthcare while potentially retaining some money. Trump also promoted his “most favored nation” prescription drug discounts and said Republicans would seek to make the policy permanent.

Trump also promised to make his tax cuts permanent, accusing Democrats of wanting to reverse his economic policies and raise taxes. He claimed his administration had delivered the largest recorded decline in prescription drug prices, with some reductions reaching between 50 per cent and 90 per cent. However, the address did not provide supporting figures for those claims.
On immigration and voting, Trump called for passage of the proposed “No Invasion of Our Country Act”, though he provided few details about its provisions. He also urged Congress to pass the “Save America Act”, which he said would require voter identification and proof of citizenship. Trump further called for an end to no-cash-bail policies and pledged stronger action against fraud.
Trump repeatedly urged Republicans to vote on or before November 3 and warned that Democrats would seek to dismantle his administration’s policies if they regained control of Congress. He claimed officials had identified billions of dollars linked to fraud and suggested the eventual figure could exceed $1 trillion. The midterm elections will therefore serve as a major test of Trump’s political agenda and determine the balance of power in Washington.
