Multistorey Building Collapses in Delhi's Murshidabad! Four Dead, Several Trapped

Four Dead, Several Trapped in Delhi Building Collapse

A four-storey residential building in Shakti Vihar, Mustafabad, northeast Delhi, collapsed around 3:02 AM on Saturday, killing four people and trapping others under debris, police reported.

The incident, described as a "pancake collapse" by NDRF Deputy Inspector General Mohsen Shahidi, occurred in a congested area, complicating rescue efforts.

Police received a call at Dayalpur station and rushed to Gali No. 1, where the building had crumbled. Rescue operations, involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services (DFS), and volunteers, are ongoing. So far, 15 people have been rescued, with 10 admitted to GTB Hospital.

Additional DCP Sandeep Lama estimated 8-10 individuals remain trapped, while early reports suggested up to 22 were caught in the debris.

Shahidi noted, “This is a particularly dangerous type where chances of survival are minimal. Still, we hope there are lives that can be saved.” Space constraints limit heavy machinery use, slowing debris clearance. A police source suggested construction work in ground-floor shops may have triggered the collapse. The building’s owner, Tehsin, resides on the first floor, with tenants occupying upper levels.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta ordered a probe, promising “strict action against the culprits” and ensuring treatment for the injured. She expressed condolences, saying, “May God grant peace to the departed souls.” AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and Leader of Opposition Atishi also urged party workers to aid rescue efforts.

The cause remains under investigation as teams work tirelessly to save those still trapped.
