TMC Alleges Bulldozer Used to Vandalise Party Office in Kolkata’s New Market
TMC alleges bulldozer attack on office amid post-poll tensions.
Tension gripped the bustling New Market area in Central Kolkata after a bulldozer was allegedly used to vandalise a local office of the All India Trinamool Congress following the recent Assembly election results. The incident, reported near the historic Hogg Market, forced several traders to shut their shops early amid fears of unrest.
Police said a case has been registered and four persons have been arrested in connection with the vandalism. The situation briefly escalated as the bulldozer moved through parts of the market, with eyewitnesses describing a tense atmosphere in the aftermath of the election outcome.
The Trinamool Congress condemned the episode, terming it an “act of brazen hooliganism and gundagardi.” The party alleged that supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party carried out the attack as part of post-poll celebrations. It also shared a video purportedly showing a crowd waving BJP flags while a bulldozer damaged structures in the vicinity.

Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien claimed the bulldozer had been brought in to demolish meat shops in the area, alleging that the act took place with police permission and in the presence of central armed police forces. His remarks added to the political row surrounding the incident.
Responding to the allegations, State BJP Chief Samik Bhattacharya said the party does not support violence and that any such acts in its name would not be tolerated. Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has sought deployment of central forces in the area to maintain law and order, amid concerns over post-election tensions.
