TikTok Announces Indonesia Layoffs And Plans 300 Job Cuts In Dublin Due To AI Restructuring

TikTok cuts jobs amid AI-driven global restructuring plan.

TikTok, owned by ByteDance, is planning to cut around 300 jobs at its European headquarters in Dublin as part of a broader restructuring effort driven by artificial intelligence-led operational changes. The move reflects ongoing adjustments in the company’s global structure as it reshapes teams focused on trust, safety, and content moderation functions.

According to reports, the proposed layoffs will primarily impact TikTok’s AI data services and operations teams based in Dublin, which serves as the company’s key European hub for trust and safety activities. Some quality assurance responsibilities are expected to be redistributed to other regional centres as part of the restructuring plan.

In addition to the Dublin restructuring, TikTok has also confirmed layoffs in Indonesia, although the company has not disclosed the number of employees affected. The changes come as the platform continues to streamline operations globally while increasing reliance on artificial intelligence and automation tools to manage large-scale content and safety processes.

A company spokesperson said the organisation is reviewing its internal structure to strengthen its global operating model for trust and safety. The spokesperson added that while some roles are at risk, affected employees may be offered alternative positions within the company. The restructuring is also expected to create new roles in certain areas, even as it results in an overall reduction of about 300 jobs.

Dublin has long served as a major operational base for TikTok’s European activities, including content moderation and data protection functions. The latest announcement follows an earlier round of job cuts at the same office less than a year ago, when nearly 300 positions were eliminated, representing around 10% of its local workforce at the time.

The development reflects a wider trend in the global technology sector, where companies are reducing headcount while significantly increasing investments in artificial intelligence and automation infrastructure. Other major firms, including Meta Platforms, have also undertaken layoffs in Ireland as part of similar restructuring efforts, highlighting continued volatility in tech-sector employment amid rapid technological transformation.
